This is the first UK edition of CLIMBING AND EXPLORATION IN THE KARAKORAM-HIMALAYAS by William Martin Conway. This book was published in London by T. Fisher Unwin in 1894. The book measures 252mm tall x 168mm, and has 709 pages, 300 illustrations, folding map, index. Account of the first mountaineering expedition to the Karakoram. Conway, A.D. McCormick, Charles G. Bruce, and Mattias Zurbriggen explored and mapped the Hispar, Biafo, and Baltoro Glaciers. They attempted an ascent of Baltoro Kangri (23,390') and climbed 'Pioneer Peak' (22,600') and 'Crystal Peak' (19,400'). They produced the first detailed map of the area.

CONDITION: Original tan cloth, black & white embossed decoration front cover & spine, publisher’s emblem in black on rear cover, TEG, gilt lettering spine, black lettering front cover. This copy has been rebacked with original spine relaid so nicely that it is barely noticeable; 2cm x 4cm light greenish stain front cover, 6cm x 2cm light brownish stain rear cover, some minor warping lower outside corner of margin of first 80 pages (no staining at all), new endsheets, no foxing Price: $400.
