This is the first UK edition of HIMALAYAN ASSAULT: THE FRENCH HIMALAYAN EXPEDITION 1936 by Jean Escarra, H. de Ségogne & L. Neltner & J. Charignon. This book was published in London by Methuen in 1938. The book measures 223mm tall x 142mm, and has 204 pages, 48 b/w photos, 4 maps, 6 appendices. Quite uncommon account of the French 1936 expedition to the Karakoram to try scaling Gasherbrum I (aka Hidden Peak, 8068m). Allain, Leininger & Neltner reached about 7069m up the SW ridge before they were stopped by monsoon weather and difficult climbing. During the retreat from the mountain M. Ichac filmed two Sherpas flying past him in an avalanche. They survived!

CONDITION: Original brown cloth, gilt lettering spine. Lacking the rare DJ. Book is in nice condition with clean covers, minor foxing, a couple tiny 3mm scuffs spine edge, tight binding, no previous owner marks or writing on any pages. Price: SOLD.
