This is first printing of the first UK edition of KARAKORAM AND WESTERN HIMALAYA 1909 -- An Account of the Expedition of H.R.H. Prince Luigi Amedeo of Savoy, Duke of the Abruzzi. It was published in London by Constable And Company Ltd in 1912. This is volume one only (of 2). The second volume of 18 panoramas and three maps is not present. Here is the complete text, narrative & scientific results, of the expedition. The book measures 261mm tall x 201mm. It has 469 pages, 33 plates (5 are folding plates totaling 7 pans, 2 plates are color geologic specimen plates in appendix), 194 in-text photos, 4 appendixes. Neate’s bibliography incorrectly describes this first volume as having 36 plates.

CONDITION: Rebound in sturdy red cloth with gilt lettering & rules spine. Minimal ex-library with faint discard stamps on EPs & one on 2nd blank flyleaf, library blindstamp on title page and on page 91, library number stamped on verso of title page; otherwise no library markings on any other pages, no library pocket or tag or bookplate (no trace of removal of such), no external library markings on binding, no fore-edge or text block markings. Complete volume with all photo plates and text pages. Solid binding with strong EPs, no cracking, clean pages, no crease marks, book covers relatively clean (couple light smudge marks), spine slightly faded, spine gilt bright, overall in nice condition Price: $650.
