This is the fourth impression of the first UK edition of The White Spider by Heinrich Harrer. Kurt Max contributed much to the writing of this book, though he was not given title page credit in the book for his contributions until the 1965 edition was published. However, Harrer did give Max praising credit in the text of the first chapter of this book. The book being offered here was published in London by Rupert Hart-Davis in 1962. This has the same format and same contents as the 1959 first UK printing. The book measures 235mm tall x 157mm, and has 240 pages, 58 photos (4 in colour), route information section with large folding photo diagram showing the route, chronology of climbs, index. This is the classic history of attempts and early ascents of this famous face including Harrer’s dramatic firsthand account of first ascent in 1938. The author was a member of the first ascent team that was comprised of Anderl Heckmair, Fritz Kasparek, Ludwig Vörg, and Harrer.

CONDITION: Original blue boards, silver lettering spine. BOOK CONDITION is FINE with no fading, no soiling, tight binding, no foxing, no previous owner marks or writing on any pages, clean pages, no crease marks, no rubbing. The original DUST JACKET is in nice condition, considerably better than average for this book. There is some surface flecking at the tips of the corners, and the inside front flap corner is clipped.
