This is the first printing of the first UK edition of IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF SCOTT by Roger Mear and Robert Swan. It has been anonymously inscribed and signed on the title page by Gareth Wood. It also includes a commemorative envelope for the expedition with a 50 cent Ross Dependency stamp cancelled at Scott Base 13 November 1985. The envelope has been hand-signed by Roger Mear and Robert Swan. Gareth Wood's signature on the envelope is a stamp. His signature in the book is hand-signed. This book was published in London by Johnathan Cape in 1987. The book measures 254mm tall x 165mm, and has 306 pages, 96 color & 11 b/w photos, 2 maps + EP map, 5 appendices, index. Winner of the Boardman-Tasker Award of 1987. Account of 3-man unsupported journey following Scott’s route from McMurdo Sound to the South Pole (Mear, Swan, & Wood). Also ascents of Mt Elbrus—including 1st solo winter ascent—and winter journey from McMurdo Sound to Cape Crozier & back, the first repeat of Cherry-Garrard’s “worst journey in the world.”

CONDITION: Original blue boards with gilt lettering spine. nice condition dust jacket (no chips, no tears, no fading). The book is in fine condition with no previous owner marks or writing on any pages, tight binding, no foxing, clean. Price: $75.
