This is the first printing of the first edition of THE ITALIAN VALLEYS OF THE PENNINE ALPS, A TOUR THROUGH ALL THE ROMANTIC AND LESS-FREQUENTED 'VALS' OF NORTHERN PIEDMONT, FROM THE TARENTAISE TO THE GRIES by S. W. King. This book was published in London by John Murray in 1858. The book measures 207mm tall x 133mm, 558 pages, 16 illustrations, 4 maps (3 are folding), index. Crossing the Alps, exploring & traversing the less known valleys of Piedmont which descend the southern side of the Pennine chain, from Mont Blanc west to Monte Rosa east. King made an ascent of the Breithorn. His wife accompanied him throughout the journey.

CONDITION: Early rebind in 1/2 leather, marbled boards, gilt covered raised bands spine. rubbed corners, foxing on title page and old penned owner name partially erased from the top of the page (see photo below), VG. Price: $300.
