This is the first printing of the first USA edition of THE HOME OF THE BLIZZARD: BEING THE STORY OF THE AUSTRALIAN ANTARCTIC EXPEDITION 1911-1915 by Sir Douglas Mawson. This book was published in Philadelphia by J. B. Lippincott Company in 1915. Two volume set collated complete for all pages, plates, maps. The volumes measure 252mm tall x 185mm. Volume I: 349 pages + errata slip + b/w frontispiece + 8 plates with color illustrations and photos + 143 b/w & sepia photos on plates + 6 folding photos + 17 in text illustrations (including maps and plans). Volume II: 338 pages + b/w frontispiece + 10 plates with color illustrations and photos + 117 b/w & sepia photos on plates + 7 folding photos + 20 in text illustrations (including maps and plans) + 3 folding map in the pocket at the end. One of the most desired of all polar exploration books. This was a very successful expedition, marred by an accident that led to Mawson's epic struggle for survival. Mawson was utterly alone, a physical wreck, yet he never quit even after realistic hope of survival was gone

CONDITION: Original ribbed navy cloth with silver lettering covers and spines, silver decorations of leaning on the wind front covers, blue top edge text blocks. No restorations, original endpages, endpages not cracked, solid binding, no previous owner marks or writing on any pages, no foxing, some dulling to spine covers and spine lettering, some rubbing spine ends and tips corners.
